Game for a good time
Volume 11, No. 38, March 8, 2006

WHILE the athletes of the Commonwealth assemble in Melbourne, the ADF’s support team to the Games is already well down the track of delivering its support.

After two training exercises and more than a year of planning, Op Acolyte is well prepared to help provide a secure and harmonious Commonwealth Games, which start on March 15.

About 2600 ADF personnel are in location to provide specialist ceremonial tasks, general support and will assist the Victorian Police search venues, operate VCPs, respond to bomb threats and clear waterways.

CDF ACM Angus Houston said Defence was very proud to be involved with the Commonwealth Games.

He said he wanted to ensure Australia staged a safe, secure and successful event for athletes and the public to enjoy.
ADF elements include Black Hawks, F/A-18s, SF, topographic support, engineers, ships and MPs.

The CDF said he was pleased to see reservists taking part in the operation.

“Some of these troops are part of the Reserve Response Forces that were established two years ago,” he said.

“Their contribution to the Melbourne Games will show just how versatile the role of reservists can be.”.
