ARMY rugby league players have carried on from their thundering success at the Combined Australian Services Rugby League (CASRL) Carnival by dominating the selections for the ADF Rugby League team.

Of the 27 players selected for the ADF squad, 16 of them are from the Army side.

CASRL Association President WO1 Grahame Cavanough said plans were being made for the ADF team to play at least two matches against the British Defence Force Rugby League team visiting Australia from April.

“At this stage we will be playing one Test against them in Sydney at a venue to be advised in April, before an NRL match. The intent is to play another game as a curtain raiser prior to a Kangaroos Test match in Brisbane,” he said.

“This is all depends on whether the British side is able to change their tour dates. If they can’t do this we will play two Test matches in Sydney.”

The last time the two teams met was in 2003 when Britain defeated the ADF team 7-6.

“We are expecting a good tussle and it will be good to have them out here,” WO1 Cavanough said.

The ADF team will also go to Adelaide to play in the Affiliated States Carnival between June 10-12.

“This competition includes civilian state teams with a combined Queensland/NSW police side,” WO1 Cavanough said. “We are fielding a fairly strong side, and we will be very competitive.”
