MUCH has been written about Brokeback Mountain as a groundbreaking award winning movie. The first thing you notice is it’s a truly beautiful movie with breathtaking scenic panoramas of rugged Wyoming.

It stands out from the usual Hollywood fare by doing its storytelling at a country pace, slowly entwining you into the lives of these two angst-ridden cowboys, their families and their love story. Ang Lee’s direction, the entire casts’ performances and the subtle score combine to give you a superbly crafted cinema experience. It’s a poignant story that will leave you thinking about how unfair life and love can be in harsh unforgiving times and places.

Brokeback is not a groundbreaking film in any sense. It is at times too ponderous and the pace may frustrate some, but the story is what matters here.
