Whatever People Say I am, I’m Not
Arctic Monkeys
EMI

THERE’S a lot of hype around this band which shot to fame thanks to a giant web-based fan group. Now they’ve released a CD for the traditionalists who want more than a digital file on their computer. The band is pretty funky; check out their web site at www.articmonkeys.com.

Food in the Belly
Xavier Rudd
Universal music
FOR those not familiar with Mr Rudd, his style is a little Ben Harper, a little Jack Johnson and a little Donovan. He’s not really hippy, but his songs are full of meaning and his gentle voice is very easy to listen to. If you missed his latest tour (Rudd appeared with Kasey Chambers in Tamworth), grab the CD.
Signs of a Struggle
Mattafix
EMI
SURE, they sound like they belong in an Asterix and Obelix comic, but Mattafix have got a really easy hip-hop sound. Their female lead sounds a bit Boney-M – not that there’s anything wrong with that. If all hip-hop sounded like this, I’d be a fan.
