G-G drops in for Christmas lunch

GOVERNOR-General Maj-Gen Michael Jeffery has praised the outstanding performance of AMTG2 soldiers during a four-day tour of the MEAO.

During the Chrsitmas visit, he spoke with the soldiers of the cavalry combat team, where he had a close look at their weaponry and jumped into an ASLAV for a hands-on demonstration.

Maj Wayne Crawford, from Combat Team Courage, said “the lads got a bit of a buzz out of the visit, and [Maj-Gen Jeffery] was genuinely interested in what they were doing.”

Cpl Julian Dean even let the Governor-General in on a running joke by introducing himself as the Crew Commander of 1 Charlie, followed by Maj Crawford as his gunner, which triggered a roar of laughter from the surrounding soldiers.

“It’s our ongoing gag, so I thought, why not,” Cpl Dean said.
