THE annual RA Sigs Corps Week ranged across the full spectrum of events from the serious to the wacky.

7 Sig Regt hosted the annual activity at Cabarlah, Queensland, last month. More than 350 personnel from 13 other units or sub-units took part in the competitive spirit of the week.

The variety of events included running, rugby union, golf, billy cart races and the Vatican Guineas (RA Sigs’ version of the Melbourne Cup). A team from DFSS won the premier event, the Caduceous Cup.

The course for the running events proved quite a challenge.

Starting in the darkness before dawn under a curtain of light drizzle, the 3.6km circuit was negotiated in relay-style races. Some teams clocked up an impressive total of 108km. 7 Sig Regt won both the Athena (women’s) and Grecians (oldies) running events.

The rugby competition was conducted over several days. Competition was fierce despite the small number of teams. A combined team of 145 and 126 Sig Sqns won the rugby trophy.
