Soft landings

DSTO is developing high performance panels to cushion the ground impact of airdropped goods and equipment.

Because of a shortage of the Energy Dissipating Material (EDM) panels available for use by ADF in an upcoming joint exercise, DSTO has been working with the manufacturer to identify panels that might be satisfactory for the purpose.

The EDM is made using thick, unbleached paper formed into a honeycomb structure approximately 75mm thick, with similar paper bonded to each face.

DSTO has been working with a local manufacturer to develop high performance EDM panels.
