2/14 LHR (QMR) officially opened its new $4.5 million workshop facility on November 26.
The new facility was built as part of the introduction of the ASLAV fleet of vehicles into service with 2/14 LHR (QMR).

Commander 7 Bde Brig Dave Chalmers, a former CO of the unit, officially declared the workshop open as his last duty in the top job at HQ 7 Bde.

Maj Mark Stone, OC Combat Service Support Squadron, said the new workshops provided the unit with a world-class, purpose-built complex to meet the needs of the ASLAV capability.

“Quite simply, it is the best facility of its kind in Australia,” Maj Stone said. “It takes the best elements of all the workshops in 1 Bde and puts them into the facility we now have here.”

The final phase of the redevelopment included the refurbishment of the original workshop area to support an electrical repair/battery charging capability and an instrument/radio repair facility.

Key features

  • Seven repair bays.
  • Servicing pit facility capable of handling three ASLAVs at one time.
  • 20-tonne gantry crane capable of lifting an ASLAV from one end of the workshop to the other.
  • Hydraulic guillotine capable of cutting 4mm steel plate or 6mm aluminium plate.
  • Air conditioned, sound-proofed office environment.
