ARMYS street machine has officially been named during the
Summernats launch at RMC Duntroon.
Winner of the naming competition, Cpl Jason Binns from Defence
Signals Directorate, said he thought the street machine needed
a tough name.
That is why I called it Armygeddon, I thought it would appeal
to the young blokes, he said.
CA Lt-Gen Peter Leahy said Armygeddon was an amazing piece of
machinery.
Anyone can do a normal burnout, but this vehicle can do
what others can only dream about. Driving any wheel, or wheels,
while holding the others still, he said.
I am very proud to say it is one of the Armys newest
and coolest recruiting tools.
Armygeddon is maintained by nine members of Team Army, headed
by OC Maj Peter Baxter, with a 2IC, four trade trainees, a chief
mechanic, a driver and a truck driver.
Maj Baxter said it had taken 1000 hours to build Armygeddon, with
up to 30 Army personnel involved with the project.
Fitters and turners built the bumper bar, vehicle mechanics
worked on the engine and other components and carpenters built
the ute tray, he said
We have also sent our tradesmen to Starr Performance in
Melbourne to learn how to maintain Armygeddon.
Maj Baxter said Armygeddon could do burnouts while engaged in
five, four, three and two-wheel drive, but it would not compete
at Summernats.
Instead it is going to be an exhibit to demonstrate in the
burnout and other competitions and to encourage people to talk
to us about joining the Army.
Armygeddon will appear at the Summernats from January 6-8.
