Put
the rest back into your leave

Take
up the offer: Bases open their doors for free accommodation.
|
Make
your long distance travel safe:Deputy Director Safety Information
Management Unit Gary Skewes shows you how.
IF youre travelling by road this festive season, bases around
Australia are throwing out the welcome mat and inviting you to stay
overnight.
The Defence-sponsored Defence Highway Rest Stop Program allows Defence
drivers to make use of on-base transit accommodation.
It is specifically targeted at those travelling on holidays as opposed
to members travelling on posting who are already in receipt of allowances.
All participating bases provide accommodation and use of on-base
facilities and a number provide basic accommodation for families.
Its important to book and you can do so through the web sites
at the end of this story.
Points to think about
-
Researchers from the Centre for Sleep Research in Adelaide identified
that a person who hasnt slept for 17 hours has the same
chance of having an accident as someone with a blood alcohol level
of 0.05.
-
Researchers have also noted that many fatigue-related accidents
tend to occur in two distinct periods between midnight
and 6am, and between 2pm and 4 pm. These periods correlate to
our normal circadian rhythm where the body is at its the lowest
level of alertness and body temperature and at its lowest capacity
for processing incoming information.
-
Taking a break in the early to mid-afternoon period significantly
lowers the chance of a fatigue related accident.
