THE “crazy” charge of the Light Horse that led to the capture of Beersheba in 1917 has been celebrated in the Iraqi desert.
Soldiers of 2 Cav Regt with the AMTG in southern Iraq – 996km from Beersheba – carved up a magnificent cake to mark the anniversary – which is also recognised as the regiment’s official birthday – on October 31.

The youngest member of the cavalry element, Tpr Brendan Higgs, cut the cake with an Iraqi dagger, watched by AMTG CO Lt-Col Roger Noble.

2 Cav Regt traces its origins to the Light Horse in World War I and wears the “blue on blue” colour patch of the 4th Light Horse Regiment.
