THE first courses for reservist storepersons following the trade review have started.

To be qualified, personnel have to complete the IET operator supply course conducted as two 16-day modules at either ALTC at Bandiana or RTC-NSW at Moorebank.

Lt-Col David Buchanan, Chief Instructor Technical and Trade Training Wing RTC-NSW, said the new course would further develop the skills and capabilities of reserve Q staff.

“The new two module course replaces the old QMSB course and makes trainees employable in a greater range of work places,” Lt-Col Buchanan said.

“The course is designed so that after module 1, the trainees return to their units for six months of on-the-job training before completing module 2.”

The first course involveds 12 students, including a private from the Tongan Defence Force. The first module, held at Moorebank from October 15-30, trained participants to work in unit Q stores, issue and receive stores, use SDSS and to operate on-pavement forklifts.

The second module, to be held in mid-2006, will provide further training in SDSS, managing unit resources and operating in a warehouse environment.
