National
security role for colonel

THE professionalism of Army officers has again been recognised
following the appointment of another serving officer to a senior
national security position.
Col Angus Campbell, currently CoS to the CDF, has been appointed
to the position of First Assistant Secretary of the National Security
Division in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C).
Col Campbells appointment follows on from that of Maj-Gen
Duncan Lewis, who retired from his position as the Special Forces
commander in October 2004 to take up the same job. Maj-Gen Lewis
has now been promoted to Deputy Secretary.
CA Lt-Gen Peter Leahy said he and the CDF were pleased to hear
the news of Col Campbells selection.
The CDF and I have supported Col Campbell through the selection
process and we welcome his appointment, Lt-Gen Leahy said.
This is a significant personal achievement for Angus, for
which I congratulate him.
More generally, I see this appointment as a strong endorsement
of the quality of Armys people and training. CDF and I are
both confident Angus will make a positive contribution to national
security at PM&C and we look forward to his return to Army
in due course.
