Personnel - just what the doctrine ordered

Surge in new publications

ARMY’s number of doctrine publications is continuing to grow as part of the remediation effort started in 2003.

The allocation of resources in critical areas such as production support and completion of high priority publications by outsourced contracts has created a surge in production. As a result, 65 new publications have been published and 25 existing publications have been amended in the past 12 months.

A further 50 new publications are expected to be completed and published in the next year.

There has been significant support imparted by many units across Army in providing authors, attending working groups and commenting on publications. This ongoing contribution is highly appreciated and a necessary part of doctrine development.

Currently Army has some 330 doctrine titles, with more than 80 per cent published as either new Land Warfare Doctrine (LWD) publications or still covered by the older Manual of Land Warfare series. These older publications will be gradually phased out as Army ensures its doctrine is as up to date and relevant as possible.

Refining the number of doctrine publications Army needs is an ongoing process that is influenced by new capabilities coming on line or changes in the way Army does its business. You can check out the list of LWD publications on the ADEL web site at http://adel.defence.gov.au.

ADEL update

THE ADEL CD Mid-Year Update 2005 has hit the streets in recent weeks.

The new CDs include more than 30 new publications completed since the last CD was issued at the start of 2005, including the Cavalry Regiment and two publications on Urban Operations. Users should discard their older 2005 CDs to ensure they have the most up to date version of doctrine publications. The new CDs are clearly marked as the midyear update.

What’s new

PUBLICATIONS just released on to the ADEL web site in the last month include the Employment of Armour, Employment of Artillery, Combat Fitness Handbook, Drill and Climbing.

Printed versions of these publications should be out in unit locations in the next few weeks.

Have your say

USE the “Contact Us” link on ADEL online to comment on any aspect of Land Warfare Doctrine. All printed publications also have comments cards in the back that can be sent direct to Doctrine Wing, Land Warfare Development Centre. Feedback is invaluable in rectifying errors and ensuring publications are amended correctly. Ultimately it’s your doctrine and it won’t be fixed unless you tell us what is wrong.
