Fantastic Four
Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans

IT’S hard to avoid a cheese factor in comic-to-film movies. Fantastic Four sounds like an Enid Blyton novel, but childhood adventure it’s not.

Five scientists head to outer space to conduct DNA research and we know they’re not coming back in the same shape as they left.

After an outer space emergency, the five return. Where does the title Fantastic Four come in if there were five? Simple, every hero needs an anti-hero, and the fifth scientist is evil enough to take on the good four.

This film is pretty low on the cheese factor. For once, the heroes don’t confine themselves to the darkest hours to do their good-doings. They’re out and about in broad daylight, giving interviews to the media and having all-in brawls with each other in front of hundreds of onlookers. And the special effects are special, but aren’t the be all and end all of the film.

The group has issues with their new powers – who wouldn’t? But they work together to help each other and take on the evil one with nerves of steel. Quite literally.

This is a fun, entertaining movie with the right mix of humour and seriousness.
