THE guard may have changed at Camp Smitty but it is still tiger territory.

The AMTG’s Combat Team Tiger has taken over responsibility for perimeter security at Camp Smitty from 2 Princess of Wales’s Royal Regt (2PWRR).

Combat Team Tiger is named after the mascot of 5/7RAR as many of the team’s soldiers are from the battalion.

2PWRR is also known as “the Tigers” because its soldiers wear the royal tiger sleeve badge awarded by King George IV in 1826 in recognition of the unit’s service in India.

Following a transition period in which the soldiers of Combat Team Tiger shadowed their British counterparts, the Australians took over guard duties and will remain responsible for the camp’s security for the foreseeable future.

Pte Adam Donaldson said he was looking forward to his new duties.

“The British are a good bunch of blokes and have done a great job of showing us the ropes,” he said.
