A NAVY team with two Air Force members took the interservice women’s title 10-5 at Randwick Barracks on May 18.

According to the Army team manager, Capt Danny Hansen, crucial injuries to crucial positions early in the match forced some reserves into the game earlier than expected.

“In the first half we played very strong in the forwards and in the second half we belted around the forwards and did a lot of phase play,” he said.

“We mainly kept it in the forwards a fair bit; in small instances we took it out to the backs and certainly showed we could break their line.

“Navy were aggressive, especially around the ruck ball and maul ball. But then again, we showed the same sort of aggression.”

The try scorer for Army was OCdt Kate Porter, who was one of Army’s best players.
