Kiwis to get NH90 helicopter

NEW ZEALAND has joined Australia in its selection of the NH90 helicopter as a replacement for the Royal New Zealand Air Force’s fleet of ageing Iroquois.

Australia selected the NH90 (MRH 90) as a troop lift vehicle in August last year.

The NH90 is the reference in the medium sized twins class carrying 16 to 20 fully equipped troops.

New Zealand’s Minister for Defence said the helicopters would aid interoperability with security partners and allow his country to participate in a wide range of operations.

Negotiations continue on number, cost and delivery date.
