Logistics
is now on line
HAVE
you’ve wondered who organises the movement of ADF personnel and
equipment on deployment or how a damaged ASLAV gets repaired or
replaced, the answer will soon be only as far away as your keyboard.
Defence Logistics is on line with the Introductory Modules on
Logistics in Defence (IMLD) at the Defence Online Campus. IMLD
is designed for all personnel who require an understanding of
the fundamental logistic issues in Defence.
An initiative of Joint Logistics Command in conjunction with DMO
and with significant technical input from Army’s Training Technology
Centre, IMLD is the first part of an e-learning product designed
to provide a resource for the whole of Defence. Put together by
the Logistic Education and Training section of Strategic Logistic
Branch, IMLD contains an introduction and overview of Defence
Logistics, a description of Government and Defence Logistics interface
and segments on the functional areas of logistics.
IMLD content is based on current logistic doctrine contained in
the ADDP 4 series and policies and procedures applicable to the
services and groups in Defence and, in many cases, examples of
their application are included. A glossary of all reference material
is provided and a program to maintain and regularly update the
package is in place.
The package is a learning environment first, but, it is also an
up-to-date information package. The IMLD site is interactive –
that is you have to react to it, not just read from the screen
– making for a much better learning environment.
The next two segments of the product, currently under development,
focus on logistics support to capability and logistics support
to operations. These lessons, to be launched later in the year,
will be scenario- based with lots of interaction.
