Getting the most out of self-service

By Fiona Davidson

PMKeyS Self Service has passed its first anniversary of operation and in a little more than a year 50 per cent of ADF members have accessed their record on at least one occasion.

On average, 20,000 members access their PMKeyS Self Service details each month. Members who use the DRN can access a variety of personal and employment details and can update certain data such as home address, telephone numbers and details for their emergency contacts to ensure up-to-date accuracy.

Members can quickly and easily check leave balances, that nominated family for leave travel and dependant/ beneficiary details are correct, print payslip or submit a new employment preference and restriction form.

Some personnel who supervise civilians can approve their leave or validate education qualifications using PMKeyS Self Service. Many members have submitted suggestions for enhancements.

These suggestions are appreciated and, where practicable, incorporated as the system is further developed.

In December, new pages under the menu item My Qualifications were issued that allow members to check their proficiencies, degrees, honours, awards and professional memberships.

In late February, members will be provided with more details in their Personal Information Summary, and have access to additional pages contain-ing their ADO service record history (including operational service, promotion, posting and course histories).

By mid-year members should be able to submit applications for annual leave through PMKeyS Self Service.

The feasibility of recording performance appraisals online, bypassing the current webform process, is also being investigated.

Although not all members have ready access to a DRN terminal, measures are being taken to improve access, particularly to deployed and isolated members.

Meanwhile, members without access to PMKeyS Self-Service access can still call on administrative staff to provide these services.

All members are encouraged to look at their personal and employment details using PMKeyS Self Service and to alert administrative staff to any omissions or errors.
