Australian soldiers busied themselves in and out of the spotlight in one of the most entertaining military productions Sydney has seen in recent years.

In an Australian first, The Edinburgh Military Tattoo – Salute to Australia brought together military bands from Britain, New Zealand and Australia.

The Combined Pipes and Drums Band of the RAR and Australian Army held centre stage, while the ADF Band warmed up the crowd with some Aussie favourites.

A purpose-built life-size mock-up of Edinburgh Castle provided abackdrop to the Tattoo, which drew crowds of 27,000 at each of the six performances.

A highlight of the extravaganza was the Queen’s Colour Squadron, performing an intricate precision drill display that involved more than 300 movements.

Meanwhile , behind the scenes more ADF personnel from Op Caber were kept busy performing transport, medical and MP duties, ensuring that the show went on as planned.

  • Top Secret Drum Corps, Switzerland

  • Lothian and Borders Police Pipe Band, Scotland
