No stopping proud dad

By Maj Ross Eastgate

NEITHER war nor strife would keep WO2 Michael Leckie from daughter Melena’s Year 12 graduation ceremonies.

The Canungra-based signaller has been in Baghdad for three months and organised his mid-tour leave so that he could be on the Gold Coast for the Nerang State High School formal at the Marriott Hotel in Surfers Paradise.

He arrived home tired but happy and with his wife, Linda, watched on proudly as Melena and her partner arrived in the hotel’s imposing lobby by limo.

WO2 Leckie said he wasn’t going to miss Melena’s graduation for anything, not even being posted to the other side of the world.

Once the graduation ceremonies were over, Melena was off to “Schoolies” and WO2 Leckie headed back to Baghdad for another three months in Iraq.

On his return to Australia the family will be packing up and heading to Watsonia, where WO2 Leckie will take up a posting at the School of Signals.
