THE Army’s beastiest V8 powered vehicle will be making an appearance at the Summernats Canberra car festival early next year, thanks to a contract signed with Starr Performance.

Under the contract, Army trade trainees will work closely with the company to implement their custom designed and built chassis to handle the higher power of the vehicle.

Assistant Project Director Lt-Col Peter Schofield said Starr Performance was well respected in the racing and high performance car industry.

“Their clients’ cars are often featured in magazines such as Motor, Street Machine, Street Commodore and Performance Muscle Car,” he said.

Starr Performance is also specifying and supplying the high performance dynamic components and modifying the engine donated to the project by HM/GEM Engines.

Another key aspect of the project is the transporter for the 6x6 vehicle.

Lt-Col Schofield said a semi trailer from ALTC had been refurbished and fitted with new canvas sides, emblazoned with graphics promoting Team Army.

The final working vehicle is due to be driven by the CA in June next year.

The project’s name “Cassowary” is also marked for overhaul, with a competition launched for readers of Army to suggest a name for the vehicle.

Lt-Col Schofield said the best suggestion would win a Team Army t-shirt, baseball cap and stubby holder.
