A VEIL of mourning has descended upon 2 Cav Regt following the
death of one of its serving sons.
25 year-old Iraq veteran Tpr Angus James Lawrence died in Royal
Darwin Hospital last month after being evacuated from the field.
Tpr Lawrence had been a student on a Sub 1 Cpl course being conducted
by RTC-NT.
He was taking part in routine field training at the Mt Bundey
Training Area when he showed symptoms of heat illness.
Despite being evacuated as a Priority 1 casualty, he died later
that evening.
An investigation into the death has commenced in accordance with
ADF regulations.
Fellow soldiers, family and friends packed the Lone Pine Chapel
at Robertson Barracks, where Tpr Lawrence was remembered for the
larger-than-life character he was.
His sister Melonie Paddison echoed the thoughts of many in the
emotion-charged chapel when she spoke on behalf of her family:
Naturally the family are much bereaved over the great tragedy
of this loss of Angus; the laconic larrikin with a beautiful heart
and a great and steady love for his family and friends.
He was a loyal and humorous friend always up for a laugh,
but a rock of support for those who were lucky enough to call
him a mate.
For his family and girlfriend he was the loving, beautiful
boy who filled our hearts and lives with joy.
We all love you Angus.
