Thousands take the long way to the bay

RUNNERS from Keswick and Warradale Barracks have participated in Adelaide’s annual City to Bay fun run to raise more than $8000 for the Canteen charity.

15,000 runners and walkers participated in the run, over a course that started in the city centre and followed Anzac Highway, past Keswick Barracks, to the beachside suburb of Glenelg.

RSM 9 Bde WO1 Mark Levine completed the 12km run with a team of 30 people from both barracks, including three civilians.
“Besides being a great way to test your fitness and be part of a huge community event, we raised a considerable amount for charity,” he said.

“Our runners obtained sponsorships from families and friends.

“The messes contributed, as did Defcredit and Spotless.”

Members of 48 Fd Bty supported the City to Bay fun run by firing a six-ounce charge to mark the start of the race.
The first City to Bay fun run was held in 1973 to raise funds for Athletics South Australia and attracted 1600 competitiors.
