Movie Review

Deathwatch

Rated M, Magna Pacific

When soldiers on the Western Front during WW1 become hardened to death, what could scare them?

The Surviving members of Y Coy have stumbled out of a gas fog into German territory.

As clear a trench, they kill all the German soldiers there – except one.

Soon strange things start happen and they realise it’s not German soldier that’s picking them off.

The captive soldier warns the Brits they’ll turn against each other until they’re dead.

Despite its horror genre, Deathwatch is no more thrilling than an episode of Law & Order.

It's great to see Andy Serkis swapping his Gollum costume for an army uniform but sticking to the creepy character.

The Housekeeper

Rated M, The AV Channel

Jacque’s wife has left him and he’s sick of living in a pig-sty in Paris.

He answers the ad of a person offering housekeeping services and before long has Laura, a girl half his age, cleaning his house.

The Housekeeper is a beautifully made movie whose subtlety makes it a stand out.

It takes the obvious plot path, but is masterful enough not to give the game away in the first hour.

Get real

Rated M, The AV Channel

Sixteen-year-old Steven doesn’t fit in at school.

He’s kind-hearted, but sort of nerdy.

His best friend is his next-door neighbour, Linda, who has had over 85 driving lessons.

The cool gang push him around and call him queer.

What they don’t know is that he is.

And only Linda knows.

John, the hottest boy in school has everyone’s respect, and all the girls – and Steven, are in love with him.

When Steven runs into him at the park toilets, he knows that John’s not 100 per cent sure which team he plays for.
