Heating up the Brisbane winter

THE 7 Bde winter sports calendar culminated in a day-long festival of footy in which each of the three codes featured gutsy efforts, high skill levels and the resurgence of brigade sports at Gallipoli Barracks.

The soccer final between a combined Cabarlah team and 1 Topo Regt remained scoreless for 66 minutes, until the only goal was put away by Sgt Ben Parton, School of Sigs, Cabarlah, just four minutes from the close of play.

A combined 2/14 LHR and 1 Fd Regt Aussie rules team looked like causing the upset of the day until 6RAR kicked away in the final quarter to finish clear winners 86-56.

The infantrymen then tried to double their win in a tough, closely fought rugby grand final, but the Commander’s 15 took charge of the game to finish in front 27-15.
