Bringing
Defence into the classroom
By
Pte John Wellfare
DEFENCE 2020 has been judged Best Secondary Educational Resource
by the Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) at an award ceremony
in Melbourne recently.
Defence 2020 presents a series of case studies to high school students
through workbooks, video and CD, with the aim of generating informed
debate about topical issues and the role of the ADF.
Representative of the event manager for ATOM, Alex Prior, said Defence
2020 had been singled out for the award from a highly competitive
field.
There are generally between 600 and 800 entries each year
in 31 categories, he said.
Each entry is viewed by a specialist panel, which is made
up of teachers and film and television industry professionals.
The quality of [Defence 2020] was very high and from the education
side they felt it targeted and reached that audience in a way that
would be very appealing, as well as useful to the teachers.
This was the 22nd year that the ATOM awards were held.
