SHOOTER Pte Tim Lowndes had been due to enter qualifying for the 50 metre Rifle Prone and the 50 metre Rifle 3 Position events at the Athens Olympics as Army went to print.

Pte Lowndes, featured in last edition of Army (#1103, August 12, 2004) is tipped to perform well in the two 50 metre events.
At the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Pte Lowndes placed 19th and 20th in the 50 metre Rifle Prone and 3 Position respectively, while placing 41st in the 10 metre Air Rifle.

In Athens this year, Pte Lowndes placed 35th in the 10 metre Air Rifle qualifying, contested on Monday, August 16, with a score of 589 out of 600.
