Sailor style thwarts winning start

LS Jason Hutchinson

ARMY netballers came within striking distance of the trophy at the WA Interserevice Netball Competition on July 20, but had to settle for second to a consistently strong Navy side.

The first game was between Navy and Air Force, the sailors coming out on top 37-13.

For game two, Army entered the fray against a rebounding Air Force side, holding them off to win 30-28.

Air Force’s two losses meant the final game between Navy and Army would be a play-off for the trophy.

At the end of the first quarter the game could have been anyone’s, with scores locked at 9-9.

But in the second half, the Navy broke away to a 13-point lead.

It was far too great a deficit for Army to come back from, and the final score was 42-23.
