Make sure you’re an Aussie

PROVISIONS apply for non- Australian citizens to enter the ADF subject to applying for citizenship as soon as they are eligible to do so.

Failure to meet this condition will result in the member’s service being terminated. DI(G) PERS 33-1 – details the requirement for members of the ADF to be Australian citizens on enlistment or appointment.

PMKeys has revealed that in some cases information relating to a member’s birthplace, country of birth and citizenship status does not comply with the DI(G).

In order to rectify this problem SCMA is in the process of contacting the members concerned, via their unit, for confirmation of citizenship status.

If you enlisted without being an Australian citizen you may be contacted to provide documentary proof of citizenship. Your unit will have 30 days to respond to the request.

You can help the process by locating your Australian citizenship certificate or other documentary evidence in the event your citizenship status is queried.

Units will be contacted by Minute from SCMA detailing those members who are required to provide citizenship evidence.
