more ASLAVs and 32 more troops have deployed to Iraq to reinforce
the SECDET and accommodate additional security tasks in Baghdad
and outlying areas. Most of the 1 Bde soldiers left Darwin on July
14, doubling the cavalry arm of the SECDET and providing an additional
infantry section.

Rugby League has been bolstered this month with the
first ever test match played on Australian soil between
the Australian and British Army Rugby League sides at
the Townsville Sports Reserve.

units from the mainland. So it was quite a spectacle for the locals
when a squadron of APCs and support vehicles docked at Devonport aboard
the Spirit of Tasmania.
