Defence
is part of the family
By Mark Tanzer
A FAMILY tradition of serving the nation was continued recently
when 17-year-old Smn Alexander von Kurtz graduated into the Navy.
While all parents would be proud to see their son at his graduation
parade, this ceremony was far more significant for Townsville couple
Paul and Kathy von Kurtz.
They now have a son in the Navy, a daughter in the Air Force, and
dad Paul is a captain in the Army.
To top it off, Kathy works as a civilian at Lavarack Barracks, and
previously served in the Army.
Were very proud of our children and of what they have
achieved, Capt von Kurtz said.
I guess you could say that with Alexander going into the Navy,
all bases are now covered.
Their daughter, Sonia, is an LACW in the Air Force, serving at RAAF
Williamtown.
Capt Von Kurtz, who saw active service with 1RAR in Somalia and
East Timor, is currently the Range Control Officer for High Range
Training Area.
His father, Alexander von Kurtz, served in RAInf for 25 years, joining
in 1955 as one of the first Germans to enlist in the post-war period.
