Helping to save trees

DEFENCE will implement Data Imaging and Optical Character Recognition technology in its corporate financial system as part of a $2.63 million effort to improve administration across the department.

CSC Australia Pty Ltd was selected as the preferred tenderer to provide the new technology solution, which will see an end to the current paper-based system and is expected to improve the efficiency of the more-than 600,000 invoices Defence processes annually. The new technology will be rolled out across Defence during the next 18 months.

Health centre opens

THE Government has opened a $1.9 million veterans’ health research centre that will focus on the health of military personnel during and after their service.

The Centre for Military and Veterans’ Health is located at the University of Queensland’s Mayne Medical School in Brisbane, with a satellite facility located within the School of Medicine at the University of Adelaide.

The Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale, said the research undertaken by the centre would enhance understanding of the health impacts of service life and contribute to the improvement of both the physical and mental health of military personnel.
