Personnel and Policy

More user options on PMKeyS

By Lt-Col Greg Tolcher

The Personnel Systems (PS) Branch in DPE continues to develop PMKeyS Self Service (PSS), an on-line service that enables Defence personnel to view and, in some cases amend, data in their PMKeyS record.

Currently, PSS allows members to view the following information:

Personal details:

  • Personal data.
  • Emergency contact.
  • Individual Readiness Summary.
  • Personal Information Summary.
  • Family travel.
  • Dependent/beneficiary.

Leave details:

  • u Leave entitlement (including annual, LSL and WSL).
  • u Leave history (including all types of leave absence).

Later this year the following functions will also be introduced:

  • Electronic Preferences and Restrictions functional-ity is expected to be introduced in the third quarter of 2004.
  • Salary Variation Advice statements are expected to be introduced by the end of 2004.
  • Functionality has been developed and is now being tested, with DJFHQ participating in testing on behalf of Army.

In consultation with the ADF and other Defence groups, PS Branch is continuing to develop PSS and will progressively introduce new features to improve the usefulness of this portal.
Recently, a link to DOMAIN, the on-line learning environment, was introduced into PSS and should be a useful service of benefit to the Army.

Examples of course content include:

  • PMKeyS basics.
  • ADF leave management.
  • Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Acess, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook, Frontpage).
  • Conducting meetings.
  • Defence OHS awareness.

For a while longer, access to DOMAIN will require a separate log-in. PS Branch is working towards implementing a single portal log-in and to make this training environment accessible from an icon on the front “Site Links” tab.

By July 9, PS Branch also plans to have automated the password reset process so that users will be able to generate a new randomly created password that will be automatically e-mailed to them. From then, only members without a recorded e-mail address will have to contact the Defence Service Centre. Notices will be distributed to advise when this new functionality is ready for release.

All members of the Army are encouraged to access both the PSS and DOMAIN services and use them to keep personal data current and to take advantage of the learning tools provided. In some cases, personal data can only be amended through your servicing orderly room or Military Personnel Administrative Centre (MPAC), for example, where a financial delegation exists. Should any data prove to be incorrect, but not accessible, members should inform their respective orderly room or MPAC.
