News in Brief

Correction

THE RSM of PTS is WO1 Gary Mychael, not WO2 Gary Mychael, as reported in the April 22 edition of Army. The error occurred during the editing process.

Army apologies to WO1 Mychael for this embarrassment and hopes the people who thought it was funny or he had been demoted will stop contacting him.

Indigenous memorial

ABORIGINAL and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and women will be honoured at a memorial service in Canberra next month.

The service, to be held on July 6, will pay respect to the many indigenous people who have played an active role in protecting and serving Australia during times of war and peace.

The two-hour service will commence at 12pm at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Memorial, located behind the War Memorial.

Automated travel closed

THE implementation of the new Defence Travel Model has led to the planned decommissioning of the Defence Automated Travel System (DATS).

The new travel model will include the Defence Travel Card and an on-line self-booking tool.

The older system is being decommissioned in order to remove the problems and confusion of operating a dual-use system.

As a result, no new users will be added to DATS and existing users will be notified by e-mail of the new procedures and the shutdown date of DATS.

  • Information will also be posted on the Defence Travel and DATS intranets sites.
