New look for huge Bandiana museum

By Cpl Cameron Jamieson

History cannot stand still; even museums must change with the times.

The huge Army Museum at Bandiana has certainly changed, with stunning new displays, new exhibits and greater accessibility for the public.

Home to the collective memories of RAAChD, RACT, RAAMC, RAADC, RAAOC, RAEME, AACC, and RAANC, the museum is now open seven days a week

Museum Manager Maj Graham Docksey thinks the museum has come a long way and is well placed for the future.

“We have a real opportunity to present Australia’s rich military history to the Albury-Wodonga area and wider region,” he said.

An 80-seat education room with audiovisual facilities has also been established, allowing the museum to provide a greater educational service to visiting school groups.

Maj Docksey said his staff and volunteers provide an invaluable service to the museum.

“We have a very good staff and a volunteer base, who will be around the museum for years to come,” he said.

“I have people around me who are ex-military, and it’s given these retired soldiers the chance to keep in touch with the military as volunteers.”
