Obituary: Ptlmn James Martin Regan

A MEMBER of the Pilbara Regt has died doing what he loved best – serving his country and community.

Ptlmn James Regan was tragically swept to his death in early April while involved in a rescue operation in the Karajini National Park in north-west Australia.

At the time he was working with the State Emergency Service (SES), which he joined in 1999.
During his service with the SES, Ptlmn Regan had engaged in a large number of cliff rescues and searches.

Emergency Services acting chief executive Bill Forbes said his selfless actions were a beacon to the whole community, especially for other emergency service personnel.

Ptlmn Regan was a typical Aussie larrikin who prided himself on his service to his country and community.

He joined A Tp, Pilbara Regt, in 2001 and quickly became one of the troop’s most committed and enthusiastic members.

During his service he had completed numerous courses, including the Patrol 2IC and Water Operators courses.

He had also completed a large number of training and Op Cranberry Patrols.

Ptlmn Regan was seen as a natural leader among his squadron and was to complete a Subject One for Corporal later his year.
His partner Carmen and son survive him.
