Movie Review

It's fun to have fun
The Cat in the Hat
Stars Mike Myers, Dakota Fanning, Kelly Preston, Alec Baldwin and Sean Hayes.
Rated G.
Reviewer :: Lt Simone Heyer

"I know some good tricks," said the Cat in the Hat, "I will teach them to you and your mother will not mind at all if I do."
Disappointingly, that line isn't even in the movie based on the said cat. In fact, the movie deviates from the book quite significantly.

Dying to be happy
The Barbarian Invasions
Stars Remy Girard, Stephane Rousseau, Mary-Josee Croze, Dorothee Berryman. Rated MA.
Reviewer :: Lt Simone Heyer

Money gets you everything, but can it bring happiness? That's the theme of The Barbarian Invasions, in which Remy (Girard) is dying of cancer. He's in a hospital room with others waiting to die.

A world of difference
Molvania: a land untouched by modern dentistry
By Santo Cilauro, Tom Gleisner and Rob Sitch. Hardie Grant Books. 296pp. $26.95.
Reviewer :: Lt Simone Heyer

You know a send-up has done its job if you think it's the real thing, but there's just something slightly too amusing about it.

Tales from Earthsea
By Ursula Le Guin. Orion. 296pp. $15.95.
Reviewer :: David Sibley

Fans of Ursula Le Guin, the acclaimed US science-fiction and fantasy writer, will appreciate this collection of short stories and information on her best-known fantasy creation, the world of Earthsea.

Lessons in history and life
The Emperor's Club

Stars Kevin Kline and Emile Hirsch. Rated PG.
Reviewer: Pte John Wellfare

"This is a story without surprises," says William Hundert (Kline) in the narration of this movie, but he is quite wrong.
