Cheque in for classes

From Capt Andrew Bird in Honiara
SOLDIERS from 145 Sig Sqn visited the Burns Creek all ages school in Honiara recently to present Principal Sam Panda with a cheque for SBD $2500 (AUS $443) to be used in the purchase of text books for the school library.

The soldiers collected the money from other defence personnel over four months, and thought it was a small way they could make a difference to the local children.

The soldiers, armed with a guitar, spent the morning at the School singing songs, drawing pictures, playing sport and talking to the children.

Lt Kurt Brissett, 145 Sig Sqn said the visit was a good indication of the close ties developed between the soldiers and the local people.

"We are very keen to see a positive future for the children here in the Solomon Islands and we believe their education and development is very important," he said.

It's fair to say the children of Honiara have stolen the hearts of soldiers deployed on Op Anode.
