Too cool in the pool

By Capt Catherine Crane
THE 1 Bde Waterpolo competition has kicked off in fine form for 2004 with teams from 5/7RAR, 2 Cav Regt, 1CER, 1CSSB and 8/12 Mdm Regt contesting the championship.

After four weeks of competition it appears 5/7RAR may be the team to beat with 1CSSB hot on their heels. With a whole season ahead though, things are liable to change.

The 2004 competition standard is high, with many defence players also competing in the local Darwin waterpolo competition.

The competition encourages new players to come along and try their hand at the game and with qualified coaches and referees, they will receive the best training to get up to speed.

The game is played in the deep end of the pool over seven minute quarters with substitution allowed throughout the game.

The 1 Bde waterpolo games are played every Thursday afternoon at the Robertson Barracks northern pool facility and as any of the players will point out to you - where else would you want to be on a hot Thursday afternoon?

  • Any Defence members interested in playing waterpolo should contact their local area reps for more information.
