Rugby respite

By Cpl Damian Shovell
RUGBY fans on operations will stay up-to-date with all the action in the Super 12 competition thanks to support from Fox Sports and the ACT Brumbies.

The two have agreed to provide recorded games of the three Australian Rugby Union teams, the ACT Brumbies, NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds, to be sent to the troops weekly.

CA Lt-Gen Peter Leahy said the games would be a great comfort for troops deployed on operations when he accepted the first tapes containing four-weeks of Super 12 action from ACT Brumbies CEO Rob Clarke in Canberra recently.

"The ability to regularly watch the Super 12 games will be an enormous boost for our troops and will provide them with some entertainment during their well earned respite when they are not on duty," Lt-Gen Leahy said.

"I would like to thank ACT Rugby Union and Fox Sports for their continued support of Australian troops. Sport plays an important part in the lives of ADF personnel and the support of these two organisations is a morale boost for all our troops.

"All three Australian sides have had a great start to the 2004 Super 12 season and I'm sure our troops overseas will now be able to closely follow their team's progress throughout the rest of the season."

The first tapes containing a full replay of all Australian games have already been sent to Iraq, with subsequent tapes to be sent each week through the military system.
