Olympic dream trial on 2RAR

By Capt Anthony Kirk
A SOLDIER from 2RAR narrowly lost a boxing match to an Olympic qualifying Solomon Islands boxer when RAMSI hosted a fight night involving many soldiers and locals.

The match, ultimately decided on points, was between Pte Luke Askew, 2RAR, and the "Hurricane" and accompanied seven other bouts on the night.

While Pte Askew was the underdog in his match, many who witnessed the bout said it could have gone either way and both men were still standing tall at the end.

Another highlight of the event was the first women's boxing match in the history of the Solomon Islands, held between Cpl Leanne Munro, 10FSB, and Tracy Lawler, APS, which ultimately ended in a split decision.

The event raised about SBD $8370 (AUS $1522), which was distributed among the Solomon Islands Olympic Committee, the Solomon Islands Amateur Boxing Association and the Sallyman.
