Northsail change

By Andrew Stackpool
NORTHSAIL 2004, the ADF's largest adventurous training and personal development program, has changed its dates.

Held over 50 days between May 30 and July 18, Northsail comprises two yachts sailing from Sydney to Townsville and return in a series of 10 legs.

According to Northsail Director Flt-Lt Rob Saunders, the delay of about five weeks was necessitated by higher priorities on the Navy's Swarbrick yachts.

"Navy needed to rejig the use of the yachts to incorporate sail training activities such as training for New Entry Officer Cadets at HMAS Creswell," he said.

"We had two other possible alternatives; the use of the Melbourne-based yachts or civilian charter yachts.

"Neither option was practical, so we accepted Navy's offer to make the yachts available after the training periods and a refit in Sydney."

  • Further details may be found on the Northsail website http://intranet.defence.gov.au/northsail/
  • Applicants don't have intranet access, should contact Northsail's Director of Personnel,
    Lorraine Vahland on (02) 6265 1718.
  • Applications for berths must be made via the website.
