THE Australian Defence Force Sailing Association (ADFSA) is holding
its annual Tasar Interservice Team Racing and ADF Tasar Championship
events at Wangi Point, Lake Macquarie, NSW.
The
races will be held over Easter, from April 5-12.
The
2003-04 National Tasar Championship will be held from July 3-10
at Mission Beach in Queensland.
While
ADFSA is entering a four or five-boat team, the timing and logistic
constraints precluded this event from serving as the Association's
Interservice Team Racing and ADF Championship event.
Instead,
the Tasar Association of NSW and Wangi Sailing Club offered assistance
to hold the event in conjunction with the NSW Tasar Championships
at Wangi.
Entry
is open to any ADF member who is a Yachting Australia (formerly
AYF) member through a recognised sailing club. Tasar Skippers must
have as a minimum a YA basic skills certificate of competency.
At
least one member of each crew competing in the combined Championships
must be a member of a state Tasar Association.
Members
can nominate to enter either or both the Interservice Championship,
the combined ADFSA Tasar and/or the NSW Tasar Championships.
A Notice
of Race for the Interservice event was promulgated in January and
Sailing Instructions for the event will be available on arrival
at Wangi.
ADFSA
is using Navy- owned Tasars, however, privately owned Tasars may
be used for the combined championships.
The
ADF has a strong history of competing in civilian Tasar competitions
at all levels. In 2003, crews were placed in the state and territory
championships.
Three
crews finished in the top 10 at the national level, and four represented
Australia at the World Championship in Canada.
This
year's NSW championship will be used for selecting the ADF team
to attend the Australian Championship being held at Mission Beach,
Queensland from July 3-10.
