Oakey in deep for money

AN OUTSTANDING effort of 70.65kms has been swum raising $3286 for the Queensland Cancer Fund by members in Oakey.

Last November in Toowoomba a team of people from the Oakey Aviation Centre joined with over 100 others from the local community in a 24-hour swimming relay to raise money for the Queensland Cancer Fund.

This was the second year for the event conducted at the Glennie Aquatic Centre and it has proved to be more successful with the amount of support it received.

The team of 25 from the Aviation Centre, organised by Dianne Shepherdson, comprised of civilian and military staff, and family and friends.

Each team member swam for a minimum of a half-hour, with some doing up to two hours each.

The team, one of four, fulfilled the requirement to have a swimmer in the water for the 24-hour period which commenced.

An outstanding effort by all concerned.

The overall tally raised by the event is expected to exceed $14000.
