A
knockout round

11/28 RWAR has hosted the now annual Brigade Boxing Competition
late this year.
Claremont
PCYC provided the professional boxing ring free of charge for
the competition.
Due
to a hectic end of year schedule the competition was held in the
afternoon as a precursor to the RWAR Soldiers Dinner.
The
event was on a strict time schedule with only seven bouts to be
contested.
This
inevitably meant that some of those soldiers were to miss out,
however, all continued to assist with the preparations and a great
sense of Esprit de Corps was shown by those not selected, making
themselves available to assist in the warm up rooms and corners
on the day.
The
opening fight was absolute beauty with a frenzy of punches thrown
by both fighters, each trying to knock the other out.
Shakespeare
couldn't have written a better script, with a couple of knockdowns
and finally the knock out blow being delivered with only about
20 seconds of the bout remaining.
The
Best Fight award went to Tpr Beacall (10LHR) and Pte Grimminck
(11/28RWAR) for an outstanding fight that saw both fighters dead
on their feet with exhaustion at the end.
A
real slog fest with supremacy over the other swapping time and
time again throughout the fight.
Special
mention should go to the eldest fighters on the day Pte Wicks
(11/28RWAR) and Pte Softley (11/28RWAR) aged 38 and 39 respectively.
Both great mates that went at it like a hammer to an anvil for
three full rounds, leaving the friendship in the dressing rooms
for a short time.
