Classic on Bribie Island

ARMY earnt a 19-to-9 win over RAAF in the 2003 Interservice Golf Championships on Bribie Island last month.

Matches played were in the form of two rounds of Four Ball Match play and one round of Individual Match Play.

The first round of Four Ball Match play was a testing day for all players with the wind playing havoc with all shots played.

The greens were lightning fast and fairways in top condition.

Army, however, ended the day with a narrow edge finishing 4-3 in front.

Day two saw players much happier with the winds easing to a gentle breeze.

Only minor changes were made to both team line-ups and with an inspiring captain's talk from Capt Geoff Skinner, Army had a positive day with a confident 6.5-0.5 win.

At the start of day three, RAAF were well under the pump trailing Army 10.5-3.5.

The RAAF team made several changes to the line-up trying to gain ground with some easy wins.

The Army team, only needing to win four of the remaining 14 matches, dug deep to come home winning 8.5 to 5.5.

All competitors agreed the green keeping staff had prepared an exceptional standard of course.
