ADF Sports Noticeboard

Cricket

Air Force will look to defend its National ADF Cricket title at the 2003 inter-service championships in Brisbane from November 16-21. Navy, Army and Air Force will lock horns from November 16-18, followed by a selected ADF side to play the Queensland under-19s on November 20-21.

 

Running

This year's Bonshaw Cup will be held on Wednesday, November 19 at HMAS Harman. After a successful day last year, this year promises to be huge, with twice as many competitors anticipated to compete in the 6km run or walk events. The event is open to all ADF personnel including Defence civilians and local Canberra Athletics Clubs. So, pen the date into your diaries, start training and see you on the 19th at Harman. Army Soccer

October 27-31 - Army soccer trials at Randwick Bks, Sydney being conducted for men's and women's open teams and over-30s men's team; October 29 - Visiting Royal Engineers team will play the Australian Army Soccer male team at Victoria Barracks, Sydney; November 1 - men's and women's open teams will play a trial game against North Epping Rangers at Christie Park, Sydney; November 3-7 - National Soccer carnival will be held at Randwick Barracks, Sydney. Softball

The ADF Softball Association will hold its 2003 national championships from November 10-14 at Georges River Softball Association grounds (accommodation at Holsworthy Barracks). National men's and women's teams will be selected for a tour to New Zealand in December. Squash

ADF Squash is planning an overseas tour in 2004, probably to New Zealand in the first two weeks of August 2004. Nominations and expressions of interest are sought from interested (registered) ADF Squash Racquets Association players and officials wishing to be part of the tour. Nominations are to be submitted to the Air Force representative, Sgt Daryl Bessell on e-mail Daryl.Bessell@defence.gov.au by October 31 for consideration by the selection panel.

 

Volleyball

The ADF Combined Services Volleyball tournament will be held at Albury/Wodonga from November 7-16. The tournament is open to Regular, Reserves and Defence civilians. Those interested should contact their state representatives. For further information, look at www.adfva.org

 

Fishing

Army rugby union

The Australian Army Rugby Union (AARU) seeks nominations for the following positions immediately: National Safety Manager, Assistant Secretary (Canberra or Sydney-based preferred), Assistant Treasurer (Canberra or Sydney based preferred), Assistant Women's Team Coach, Assistant Women's Team Manager, Assistant Sponsorship Officer (Sydney) and Players' Representative. Certain criteria may apply to these positions and enquiries can be directed to the secretary AARU on (02) 6287 6152 or mark.wheatley@defence.gov.au Applications close October 9.
