Pay in Solomons

By Pte John Wellfare
Pay and Conditions Reporter

CONDITIONS of service recently released for Op Anode listed the operation as non-warlike and provided entitlements for ADF personnel serving in the Solomon Islands.

Under the conditions of service, members serving as part of Op Anode will receive a tax-free deployment allowance of $55.50 per day.

The deployment allowance would be the only officially tax-exempt portion of the member’s income.

As with members serving in East Timor, ADF personnel deployed to the Solomon Islands for 91 days or more will be eligible to claim a section 23AG tax exemption at the end of the financial year.

In the absence of qualifying for a section 23AG exemption, members may be eligible to claim the Overseas Defence Forces rebate.

Other entitlements for members under the conditions of service released by DPE include compensation and rehabilitation under the Veterans’ Entitlements Act and additional recreation and pre-embarkation leave before deployment for those deployed for more than six months.

Mechanisms have also been put in place to provide support for families.
